At Mist & Mirror, we repurposed the skeletal beauty of an old nursery into a vibrant multi-purpose sanctuary. Whether it's a family sing-along, a cozy gathering, or a quiet moment of reflection, this space is designed to flow with your life.
The brief
On a rooftop off Sukhumvit, an old steel plant nursery had been left empty for years. The owners wanted to keep its character but turn it into a space the whole family could use, in a part of Bangkok where outdoor space is rare.
Design approach
We kept the nursery's steel frame and treated it as a pergola, letting climbers grow up the old structure. A timber deck replaced the broken floor, with a long dining table at its center and planting pushed to the edges.
A fine misting system runs along the frame. It cools the deck on hot afternoons and, at dusk, catches the light like a soft veil — the "mist" in the project's name.
The result
The rooftop now hosts birthday dinners, weekend karaoke, and early-morning coffee. The old structure gives the garden a history that a new build couldn't.
